It can be any of them. Through VevaMD’s clinician network, estradiol may be prescribed as a pill, patch, cream or vaginal form. Your clinician chooses the form based on your history and symptoms.
Why the form matters
Estrogen taken by mouth passes through the liver first, while patches and creams go through the skin. Clinicians weigh that difference for some people, such as those with certain clot risks. Vaginal forms are mainly for local symptoms like dryness.
Other options
Options may include estradiol (pill, patch, cream or vaginal), Bi-Est, progesterone, testosterone cream. Progesterone is often added if you have a uterus. Testosterone cream requires labs and a video visit.
You can share your preference. Your clinician decides.
